"Baptism is birth into the new life in Christ... The fruit of baptism is a rich reality that includes forgiveness of original sin and all personal sins.... (It imprints on the soul an indelible spiritual sign, the character, which consecrates the baptized person for Christian worship."
ccc 1277,1279, 1280
The sacrament of Baptism is typically administered following 10am Mass on Sundays. However, the Priest can work with parents to meet another request if needed.
Call the Parish Center (218-262-5541) to initiate the process to prepare for baptism.
Adults who have not been baptized and who wish to enter the Catholic Church should call the Parish Center to speak with a priest.
Each Godparent must complete an information form before the baptism.
The sacrament of reconciliation is also known as the sacrament of penance and the sacrament of confession. As the sacrament of Reconciliation, "it imparts to the sinner the love of God who reconciles...(as the sacrament of Penance) those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offense committed against Him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins ... ccc 1422, 1442
In the Catholic Church, we confess our sins to a priest at Christ's command: "On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, Jesus showed himself to his apostles. He breathed on the, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained'" (Jn 20:19, 22-23). It is in these words that Jesus gave the Twelve the authority to absolve sins in His holy name.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available:
+ Tuesdays 4:30 pm - 5:00 pm
+ Saturdays 3:00 pm
The Eucharist is the "source and summit of the Christian life...for in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual goods of the Church, namely Christ himself"
Otherwise known as Holy Communion, the Eucharist is presented to us as the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ. "It is a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet 'in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us."
ccc 1323,1324
When we are in a state of grace, we are invited to receive the Eucharist every day during the celebration of the Mass.
Children in second grade prepare to receive Christ for the first time in religious education classes. First Communion is typically celebrated the Sunday after Easter.
Adults who wish to come into full communion with the Catholic Church and thus be able to receive Christ in the Eucharist should call the Parish Center (218-262-5541) to speak with a priest.
"Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace; it is the sacrament which gives the Holy Spirit in order to root us more deeply in the divine filiation, incorporate us more firmly into Christ, strengthen our bond with the Church, associate us more closely with her mission, and help us bear witness to the Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds."
ccc 1316
Confirmation classes are held in conjunction with our Faith Formation (youth) program. Typically, students are confirmed by the Bishop at the end of their 11th grade year.
Adults who have been baptized but who have not yet been confirmed should call the Parish Center (218-262-5541) to speak with a priest.
CONFIRMATION SPONSORS must complete an information form before the date of Confirmation. Sponsor Worksheet

In his letter to Timothy, St. Paul reminds his disciple to "rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of hands." It is through that action, the laying on of hands, that the graces of the priesthood have been handed on from age to age. In the Catholic Church, all deacons, priests and bishops can directly trace the validity of their ordination to the Apostles (apostolic succession).
As we read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1578), "No one as a right to receive the sacrament of Holy Orders. Indeed no one claims this office for himself; he is called to it by God. Anyone who thinks he recognizes the signs of God's call to the ordained ministry must humbly submit his desire to the authority of the Church, who has the responsibility and the right to call someone to receive orders. Like every grace, this sacrament can be received only as an unmerited gift."
The duly ordained priest stands in persona Christi - or in the person of Christ - especially in dispensing the sacraments. He takes vows of celibacy and obedience, offering his whole life for the life of the Church.
The Anointing of the Sick is one of the sacraments of healing (along with the sacrament of reconciliation). Once thought to be reserved only for those nearing death, Anointing of the Sick is extended to all who are experiencing grave or chronic illness, the debilitating effects age can have on our bodies, and, of course, to those in danger of dying. In this sacrament, we pray for healing, and more. As Christ prayed so fervently in the Garden, "May this cup pass from me....but not my will but Yours," we ask for the graces necessary to bear our illnesses and trials, and to join them to the suffering of Christ on the Cross.
This sacrament is administered by a priest or a bishop. Since the sacrament of confession is also involved (when possible), and forgiveness of sins is bestowed, ONLY an ordained priest or bishop is able to fulfill the duties of the sacrament in the person of Christ.
If you or a loved one are facing a health crisis, please do not hesitate to contact a priest. (This sacrament can be received more than once.) You can call the parish center at 218-262-5541. If after hours and you are in need of a Priest, please call the Parish office 218-262-5541 ext. 7.
